Fluent Mix and Pierce Workstation

Pre-Analytics on Fluent

Don’t open, pipette and manually track another tube

  • Reduce labor-intensive pre-analytical workflow steps by tube piercing instead of de-capping and re-capping. Distribute liquids from tube-to-tube or tube-to-plate.
  • Rotate tubes to mix liquids, keep components in suspension (e.g. blood cells) and dissolve reagents for standardized results.
  • Full workflow control for reduced risk of human error or inconsistent sample treatment.
  • Cost effective, with reduced waste and consumables.
  • Safe, with no exposure to potentially infectious samples.
  • Made for clinical laboratories – designed to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.30, enabling 21 CFR part 11 compliance.

When standardization is required.

  • Sample archiving, transfer from tube to tube(s), 96-well and deep-well plates
  • Reformatting of plates, creation of dilution series and complex pipetting patterns
  • Compliant with IVD-D 98/79/EC and 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records and signatures
  • With fixed tips to save worktable space and consumables, disposable tips for delicate applications, or a combination of fixed and disposable tips to meet different application needs

Load and go sample splitting with pre-labeled secondary tubes

The instrument matches the barcodes of the primary tubes with the secondary tubes and creates a worklist without the need to configure a host connection.

Several destination tubes with the same barcode as the primary sample tube can be loaded. The instrument determines the necessary operation (dilution, splitting) via the different sections defined on the worktable.

Freedom EVO Clinical for downstream assay plate preparation

For ELISAs and parallel archive plate creation, equipped with fixed or disposable tips to prevent cross-contamination. The same instrument can be used for parallel sample distribution in plate set-up, aliquoting into pre-labeled tubes, or creation of worklists for printing out secondary tube barcode labels.

Throughput capabilities of the Freedom EVO Clinical

The Freedom EVOlution™ software automatically optimizes processing of different tasks, prepares a schedule and shows when the run has finished. The user is notified upfront of any manual interventions required during the run, such as tip or reagent reloading.

24 ELISA plates with six different assays from 352 samples can be processed in less than 2.5 hours, as shown in the example.

Plates ready for further downstream processing are easily accessible by the user while the instrument continues with its tasks. Additional samples can be processed through the instrument’s continuous loading capability.

Automated sample archiving and retrieval

Laboratories need to be able to accommodate requests for retrospective analysis or reflex testing.

Enjoy efficient archiving with the smallest member of the Freedom EVO® family, for fast sample transfer from primary tubes to 2D barcoded cryo tubes.

The Freedom EVO 100 system allows safe and accurate collection of clinical samples, as well as easy access and retrieval when further testing is required.

Small space – 96 samples per run – high convenience.

  • Automated aliquoting of laboratory-defined volumes of human plasma samples from 1D barcoded primary tubes to 2D barcoded cryotubes for archiving

  • The aliquot volume can be easily adapted according to the needs of the laboratory
  • Image-based, user-guided set-up
  • Sample retrieval with scan and search function
  • Disposable tips to eliminate cross-contamination
  • A choice of two-channel pipetting for fast return of investment or a four-channel pipetting option delivering higher throughput in the same small amount of lab space
  • Host connectivity

Freedom EVO configuration

  • PosID™ 1D barcode scanner for primary tube, rack and carrier identification
  • Flat 2D barcode scanner for identification of cryotubes
  • Two- or four-channel Liquid Handling Arm™ for transferring samples from primary to destination tubes
  • Manual barcode scanner for sample retrieval

Load and go sample transfer

Full traceability. The instrument matches the 1D barcodes of the primary tubes with the 2D barcoded secondary tubes and creates a worklist without the need to configure a host connection.

Host connectivity. The archiving information can be transferred to the LIS.

Clot identification. The system’s Freedom EVOware® software identifies clotted samples. If a clot is detected, the instrument pauses, notifies the user, and then proceeds according to the instructions given.

Standardization. Automation of sample aliquoting and archiving protocols increases throughput, frees up staff time, and removes the potential for human error that is inherent in tedious, time-consuming manual pipetting processes.

Operator safety. Primary tube racks can be loaded directly onto the workdeck, minimizing contact with potentially infectious samples. The workdeck is protected by a transparent front panel with electromagnetic locks controlled by the software. The system is completely closed, with an optional exhaust hood.

Simple aliquot identification. An external handheld barcode scanner is incorporated for straightforward scanning and identification of cryotube racks.

The information contained in the archive file record includes

  • Cryotube rack barcode
  • Sample barcode
  • Aliquot barcode
  • Position of the aliquot in the cryotube rack
  • Date and time of aliquot creation
  • Aliquot volume
  • Original primary sample volume

Efficient separation of plasma or serum from the cellular layer

The user can define the transfer volume of serum or plasma for each run. Protocols for the separation of different sample volumes can be pre-programmed and selected by the user before the run start.

Virology testing at a molecular level is crucial for a fast and sensitive initial diagnosis, but its role doesn’t stop there. Clinicians frequently request retrospective analysis, sometimes as a means of monitoring drug response or identifying drug resistance, and also increasingly to understand the underlying mechanisms that lead to, for example, organ rejection. The San Raffaele Hospital in Milan has developed an automated archiving system that allows safe and accurate collection of clinical samples, as well as easy access and retrieval when further testing is required.
